"The song is about the sorrow of the experience of systemic racism but also an affirmation of joy and resilience.

Phenomenon is a a reflection of what I was seeing in my own family being a black mother raising a black son in America during the biggest civil rights movement in history Black Lives Matter.

As a black mother myself, to repeatedly live and witness the pain of another Mother’s who has lost their son is traumatic but seeing how that experience was internalized emotionally through my sons eyes, I felt compelled to write a song that will always remind him of his personal power to use his voice and spirit to reimagine and reframe the negative images and narratives of division and hatred into beauty, art, song, poetry, which is what black people have always done and still do everyday.

Phenomenon is a meditation to create a brand new dream."
